Polka Dot ribbons could essentially have polka dots on fabrics cut to ribbons or hand-painted on the ribbons to give a bold, rustic effect.
These beautiful fibres are made from repurposed sari scraps, sewn and knotted together by women's collectives in India. The ends of sari garments, which would otherwise be wasted, are recuperated, cut, and connected to create one continuous skein of silk ribbon.
The colouring of these polka dot printed recycled ribbons ranges from a bright white, to cream, to light tan.
A bold print, unique textural elements, raw edges, and non-uniformcolours with surprising pops give these ribbons aesthetic complexity and make them perfect fibres for many different artistic applications:
-bags
-rugs
-weaving
-tassel making
-floral arranging
-giftwrapping
-macrame
-dreamcatchers
-jewelry making
Each skein is approximately 100g in weight and contains around 150 feet of ribbon. The width of the ribbon is around 1”
The purpose and demand of this fiber is in its non-uniformity. Each skein, and each segment of the ribbon within the skein is slightly diverse— but all are similarly as beautiful!
Due to the nature of this material please note the following
* width is variable from 0.5cm to 4 cm
*the edges are often (but not always) frayed
*colour does vary on each meter or so
*Where a colour is listed as 'mix' there will be bigger variations in colours, and may have many different colours
*each meter or so is joined through traditional stitching or knotting as with all recycled sari silk ribbon.
*this ribbon is mainly silk, but some colours may also contain small lengths of chiffon and organza
Note: Color may differ slightly from photos due to different monitor settings.
